Conspecific grooming (allogrooming) exists in most mammals (and also in birds). It is not only about cleaning the skin, but it also helps to establish and maintain social bonds. Why do we talk about social grooming in manual therapy?
Talking the language of the body
Nothing will change in the body if the nervous system, on which it depends, has not decided so. We must therefore find ways to communicate with the nervous system and propose new visions of its inner and outer world. This may allow the nervous system to react, or rather predict, differently.
Inform the CNS through the receptors
Here, the end does not justify the means. Knowing neurophysiology will help us choose the most beneficial and effective ways to touch our patient.
